A few months back, before finding out that I was pregnant I test drove two very different cars. One was the Mazda CX3 and the Hyundai Elantra. With all the car I’ve reviewed in the past I’ve never done a compare and contrast so I figured these two cars would be perfect for this concept!
I’ve broken the comparison down into 5 categories, Ascetics, Ride, Mom friendly , Gas and interior Size. So let’s get started and see how they stack up!
As humans naturally where attracted to the visual ascetics of all things. From my perspective every car I’ve reviewed has always started with the love affair of what’s on the outside. The color of the paint, the shape and curvature and the accents like rims and trim. All the ascetics that make it attractive! The Mazda CX3 was ascetically beautiful. In its midnight blue tone, oversized grill and complementing accent wheels. I’ve never been attracted to a hatchback but this one caught my eye. When it comes to cars in general I a sucker for a white car, however the Mazda’s paint color was more intriguing combined with the curvature of the vehicle.
The interior of the Mazda CX3 was a two tone of grayish white with black panel center. This I liked from a mom’s perspective and will elaborate more in the “Mom friendly” section. Although I would have preferred to see a black interior with a awesome pipping this color selection oddly completed the exterior.
The interior of the Hyundai Elantra was a base grey tone. I was hopping for more of a wow factor in the interior since the outside was more simplistic. This over all color scheme was more suited for a lover of simple and clean ascetics.
Over all both cars ride was a normal. However the Mazda CX3 had a little more speed due to its size and sport button! If you’ve read any of my past reviews you will know that I am a sucker for a SPORT BUTTON! Makes me feel like I am on a race tack every time I push one, because it kicks in instantly to give you the “get-up and go” that you need!
Being a mom of a 5 years old and another on the way, there are certain things as a mom that you look for. First, for the car to be children interior friendly! Do you know how often a preschooler ask for a snack or juice box and its always followed with a “oops”! A dark, easy to clean interior is a moms must have in a car! Although the Mazda CX3 has a light color interior the contract of black fabric was placed right in what I would consider the “spill zone”! My only concern was that the material was not leather, which means a juice box spill would soak in instantly into cloth material!
The Hyundai Elantra on the other hand came equipped leather seats, which means easy clan up! The words any mom loves to hear! When is came to car seats the Elantra also had the best space to accommodate the seats perfectly. The Mazda CX3 had bucket seats, which created a dip underneath the carseats.
Lastly because I am the shopper in our home truck space is always a must and both cars provided ample truck space. Although I preferred the way in which the Mazda CX3 as a hatch back opened to access the trunk because it sat higher and made loading a bit easier.
Gas & Interior Size:
Ahhh gas, we all need it for our cars and both cars were excellent on Gas! Interior size was another story. The Mazda CX3 was is only good for one kids or maybe two adults because it seemed very small inside. Once I added in carseat and all the accessory, along with another adult it felt a bit cramped!
However the Hyundai Elantra provided ample leg and back seat space for a family of 4 to 5. If I had to choose which one to go road tripping with my family of 3, it would be the Hyundai Elantra!
